Mini Ploughman’s Bento

Now here’s a funky twist on traditional pub grub! Take the humble Ploughman’s to the school canteen with my yummy bento box!  Swap crusty bread for tasty thins enriched with Vitamin D and calcium, and cut everything up into little chunks for fun finger food! Simply pack up with a cut-up hard-boiled egg and apple slices for a truly British lunch.

A little tip! To stop cut-up apple from browning, simply wrap a rubber band around the sliced apple put back together.

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Makes: 1 bento box
Great for:  Family Recipes Kids 2-4 Years Kids 4+ Years
1 Warburtons Half White Half Wholemeal Thin
1 tsp cream cheese
¼ cucumber cut into large chunks
½ red pepper, cut into large chunks
3 slices Cheddar cheese, sliced into 9 pieces
1 medium egg
1 apple, sliced
  1. Put the egg into a saucepan. Cover with cold water. Bring up to the boil and boil for 10 minutes, drain and refresh under cold water. Peel and quarter.
  2. Spread the cream cheese over the thin and sandwich together. Slice into 9 squares.
  3. Cut up small, chunky pieces of cucumber, pepper and cheese, and slice the apple.
  4. Pop each ingredient into separate bento box compartments. Then children can mix and match!

TOP TIP!  If you don’t have a lunchbox with different compartments, simply pop the ingredients into small pots or containers with lids – or even use cupcake cases to separate out the ingredients and cover with cling film.  Kids will love exploring!
