Lovely Lentil Puree

This vegetable puree is very popular with babies, and lentils offer a good source of protein, iron and fibre.

1 tbsp vegetable oil
1 onion, chopped
1 carrot, peeled & chopped
15 g celery, chopped
50 g split red lentils
1 sweet potato, peeled & chopped
200 ml Passata (sieved tomatoes)
200 ml water
50 g Cheddar cheese, grated


  1. Heat the oil. Sauté the onion, carrots and celery for 5 minutes.
  2. Rinse the lentils and add them to the pan with the sweet potato and sauté for 1 minute.
  3. Pour in the passata and water. Cover and cook for 30 minutes.
  4. Remove from the heat and stir in the cheese until melted. Purée in a blender.
