Happy Bear Pizzas

Pizza is LIFE for kids, right?

This recipe, created for The Carlton Tower Jumeirah in London, is the perfect way to keep little hands busy and ideal for after school playdates!

Pizza dough
300g strong white bread flour
1 tsp dried yeast (1 sachet)
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp olive oil plus extra for drizzling
Tomato sauce
1 tsp olive oil
1 onion, diced
1 clove garlic, crushed
250ml passata
1 tbsp tomato puree
75g ready grated hard mozzarella

Black olives, to decorate


  1. Preheat the oven to 220°C Fan and line a baking tray with non-stick paper.
  2. To make the pizza dough, place the flour in a large bowl and stir in the yeast and salt.
  3. Make a well in the centre, pour in 200ml warm water and the olive oil and stir together using a wooden spoon to make a soft, sticky dough.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a floured work surface and knead for 5 minutes until smooth.
  5. Place the dough in a clean lightly oiled bowl, cover with a tea towel and leave to rise for an hour in a warm place.
  6. Meanwhile, to make the tomato sauce, place the oil and onion in a pan over a medium heat and sauté for 4 minutes.
  7. Add the garlic and sauté for 30 seconds. Add the passata and tomato puree, season lightly and cook for about 12 minutes until thickened.
  8. Turn the dough onto a floured work surface and knead again briefly. Divide into 4 large balls for the face and 8 small balls for the ears.
  9. With a rolling pin flatten the large and small balls and roll out to make circles.
  10. Transfer the larger circle to the baking sheet and attach the two smaller circles for the ears. Repeat to make four teddy bear faces.
  11. Spread some tomato sauce over each of the pizzas and then sprinkle with the grated mozzarella. Drizzle with a little olive oil.
  12. Bake in the oven for 10 minutes. Decorate with black olives for the nose and eyes.
