Drunken Fish with Little Trees

Suitable from one year. Giving food fun names can encourage children to eat, for example, & little trees is a good way to describe broccoli florets.


100 g broccoli cut into florets
4 lemon sole fillets, skinned and sliced into thick strips
30 g plain flour seasoned with salt
1 tbsp sunflower oil
A knob of butter
250 ml chicken stock
2 tsp soy sauce
1 tsp sesame oil
1 tbsp caster sugar
1 tsp rice wine vinegar
1 tbsp cornflour
2 spring onions sliced


  1. To make the sauce, mix the cornflour with a little cold stock in a saucepan. Blend in the remaining stock and sauce ingredients. Stir over the heat until thickened. Add the spring onions. Toss the fish in seasoned flour.
  2. Steam the broccoli florets for about 5 minutes until just tender.
  3. Toss the fish in the seasoned flour. Heat the oil and butter. Add the sole and fry for 1 1/2 to 2 minutes. Turn over. Pour over half of the sauce and remove from the heat. Toss the broccoli in the remaining sauce, heat through and serve.
