Cucumber Crocodile

This cucumber crocodile is the ideal party food and will get all the kids screaming with excitement! Be careful with the sharp cocktail sticks, make sure to remove them before the little ones start digging in.

Ingredients

1 1/4 cucumbers
1 carrot, to make the teeth
a selection of hard cheeses, such as Gruyere, Cheddar, Edam cut into cubes.
1 fresh pineapple, peeled and cut into cubes
2 cherry tomatoes
Cocktail sticks

Method

  1. Cut out a triangle at one end of the whole cucumber, to make the crocodile’s mouth.
  2. Cut a long strip form the carrot, using a vegetable peeler, and trim it to a width of 1.5cm (1/2 in).
  3. Cut zigzags along one side to form the teeth.
  4. Make a groove in the crocodile’s mouth to hold the carrot strip.
  5. Use a quarter of another cucumber to cut out feet, and attach these using cocktail sticks.
  6. Thread the cheese and pineapple cubes onto cocktail sticks and poke the sticks into the cucumber.
  7. Use two halves of another cocktail stick to attach the cherry tomatoes behind the mouth, to form the eyes.
