Chicken & Spinach Orzo

Orzo looks like grains of rice, but is actually a pasta shape! This recipe treats the orzo a bit like risotto rice by slowly cooking it in chicken stock. My Chicken & Spinach Orzo is so creamy & delicious and one for the whole family.


2 tablespoons olive oil
1 large onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, crushed
350g orzo
900mls hot chicken stock
2 cooked chicken breasts
150g spinach, chopped
3 tables crème friache
50g parmesan, grated


  1. Heat the oil into a shallow saucepan. Add the onion and garlic and fry for 3-4 minutes.
  2. Add the orzo and stir.
  3. Add the chicken stock and bring up to the boil.
  4. Cover and simmer for 10-12 minutes until nearly cooked. Add the chicken and spinach and stir until the spinach has wilted.
  5. Remove from the heat and add the creme friache and parmesan. Season well.
