*Dietitians are often referred to as the 'Gold Standard' when it comes to nutrition and food professionals. Anyone can call themselves a 'Nutritionist', 'Nutritional Therapist' or 'Diet Expert' but Dietitians are the only nutrition professionals to be regulated by law. The Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC)'s role is to protect the public and so they act as the UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct and keeps a register of professionals who meet the standards, so you can check via their website to see if your nutrition professional is truly a registered dietitian. www.hcpc-uk.org
Registered Dietitians (RDs) are the only qualified health professionals that assess, diagnose and treat dietary and nutritional problems. They work with both healthy and sick people, young and old. You can find out more about dietitians at www.bda.uk.com
