Hi there can anyone please advise me on how to get my 1yr old to start eating lumpy food believe or not i do have a 3.5yr old aswell but i never had any trouble weaning her at all she has and still is a very good eater but my youngest is the complete opposite and i'm really struggling getting her to eat finger food and what i would call normal food she just gags everytime i try to feed her to the point where she is nearly sick and if i leave her to feed her self with finger food she just throws it on the floor, but if i puree food no problem she will eat it...It's starting to drive me a little mad, need help...xx

(Not quite the same situation but,) Sometimes my 11 month old gets fed up eating lumpy bits, and starts throwing them on the floor, and he'll also get fed up of spoon feeding himself, and of me spoon feeding him and that goes on the floor too. I have found though that he will eat from my fingers if he's fed up but still wants to eat. I also will chew the food first sometimes, so that he has less work chewing, so it's lumpy but it's not a puree. Also, if i'm eating something, he will often want to eat that. So if I'm eating a banana he will want to take bites from it. One thing I found quite useful encouraging him to feed himself were little multigrain hearts, by a well known brand beginning with O and ending in x, which your little one may or may not be interested in. They melt in the mouth and don't really require chewing, so it might help her get used to having non pureed shapes and textures without causing too much gagging. It may even be worth setting some time aside for a long, messy lunch. Get a plastic table cloth or something that you don't mind getting filthy out, sit on the floor with her with some soft but lumpy foods, like banana and pear, and just let her play with them, whilst having spoonfuls of puree ready. Let her come to you when she wants a spoonful. I appreciate that this will be very messy, but maybe some play time with them using her hands might help. Otherwise, it might be best to leave the lumpy food for a little while, take the stress out of mealtimes for you both for a week or so, and then start again, placing a couple of bits of banana or whatever on her tray, and see what happens. I hope that something in there might be helpful, although I've just realised that your message is dated 2012, rather than 2013. But I've typed it all now so I'm posting it anyway!

Hello I am Gabrielas mommy and I got your recipes through a friend who has your book and it has really made our cooking time easier and my DD loves all your recipes :)

Hey everyone, Annabel my Sophie loves your food, I am truly grateful.

I live in Mexico and I bought the translated version of the Baby & Toddler Food Diary but I noticed today that there is one recipe missing! And I think my little one will love it! it is zucchini & creamy rice? I have no idea how the title of it is originally but it is on the babies 9-12 month tag and comes after the scrambled eggs recipe. I have the preparation method but no measures for the ingredients.

Perhaps someone could help me?

Thank you sooo much in advance for your help!

Hey Charli, I make french toast... egg yoke and a little milk mixed, drop of vanilla, dip a slice of bread in it then fry both sides until golden. Then I cut it into strips and give it to my little guy with chopped fruit. He loves it... and I make enough for me as well!

Hi Annabel, all your recipes look great...and I would love to start making a few of them for our 8 month old baby..do you have any recipe ideas for breakfast for 8 mths +....my baby has grown tired of baby cereal and is only having at the moment apple, cinnamin with oates...I am sure that I can give him something more sustainable and interesting than oates every morning....
