Apple and pear puree is an ideal first food for a baby food recipe as it is easy to digest and unlikely to cause allergies. Choose sweet apples like the Pink Lady variety or Royal Gala. Apples and pears contain pectin which can slow things down if your baby has loose stools. .

If you freeze single ingredient purees like apple and pear in ice cube trays you can simply defrost one cube of apple and one cube of pear and mix them together.

Ingredients

2 dessert apples
2 ripe pears (eg: Conference pears)
4 tbsp pure unsweetened apple juice or water
Generous pinch of ground cinnamon (optional)

Method

Put the fruit into a saucepan together with apple juice or water and pinch of cinnamon (if using), cover and cook over a low heat until tender (about 6 to 8 minutes).

Blend the fruit to a smooth puree.

I don't know what I would have done if it wasn't your website and your books.

I felt so alone starting weaning and had no idea and it was really going to be a nightmare for me..I really didn't want to start weaning...but now THANKS TO YOU.. I really enjoy it..but most important my baby girl loves your recipes because they are so exiting!

So Thank you very much! You're an angel!

Made this recipe this afternoon and my son loved it. Instead of the orange juice i added 1 spoon of natural greek yoghurt. I found it very tasty too!

This is a favourite with my son and he gets it most days after dinner, sometimes add mashed banana as well which goes down a treat
