Once your baby has passed the six month stage and is happily eating bread and other foods containing gluten, it is no longer necessary to continue giving your baby special baby cereals. You can now use adult cereals like Porridge, Weetabix or Ready Brek in your baby's diet. Choose a cereal which is not highly refined and which is low in sugar and salt. You can also give wholemeal bread but avoid large amounts of high-fibre foods such as high-fibre bread or cereals - these are too difficult for babies to digest and can deplete the body of vital nutrients. Beware of some of the rusks you can buy which are supposedly 'ideal for babies'. They can contain quite large amounts of sugar. It can be better to give your baby fingers of toast or unsalted rice cakes. |
