Heartburn is caused by the baby pressing on your stomach and hormonal changes. Stomach acid can end up seeping into the oesophagus which causes an uncomfortable burning sensation. Heartburn is most common during the last three months of pregnancy.

Pregnancy nutrition - to avoid heartburn:
• Try eating smaller, more frequent meals.
• Avoid fatty foods as they are difficult to digest.
• Peppermint or ginger tea may help.
• Heartburn often feels worse when you are lying down so don’t lie down for an hour after eating and try to sleep propped up on several pillows.
• Sleep propped up with several pillows rather than lying flat.
• Avoid eating and drinking at the same time.
