Sleeping Patterns
|
Your baby’s tiny tummy means that she can’t go much longer than two to four hours without waking for milk. Babies double their birth weight in the first three to six months and consequently require frequent feeds during the night. |
Newborn babies sleep on average about 16 to 17 hours a day, unfortunately you will need to fit in with your baby’s sleep pattern and rest when you can as your baby is unlikely to have a predictable sleeping pattern until around 8 weeks when she is able to sleep for longer stretches. Most babies will not manage to sleep through the night until they are three or four months old as up until this point they are physically too immature and their stomachs are too small to hold enough milk to keep them going through the night. At first this sleep is most probably evenly spaced around the clock with 8 hours sleep during the day and 8 hours at night. Night feeds are inevitable. |
