Definitely stick to your plan and do things your way. I had 2 seperate weddings - a civil service in Switzerland wheere I live and a church one at home. We kept both really small, did exactly what we wanted to do for both days and had two really memorable days, which were exactly as we wanted them to be. The best thing was that friends and family still complement us on the great time they had too. The most important thing is to do what you want to do and enjoy it.

we got married in england at my local church 20 years ago!! it was stressful trying to please "the mums", so in the end the things we couldn't agree on i paid for, then it was my choice. it was a great day & everyone was happy in the end. we had a fab honeymoon abroad just the 2 of us. i personally wouldn't get married abroad as the wedding guests would have to stay over & spoil the lovely holiday! when you get married in england at least they can all sod of home after he wedding.

I'm all for a wedding abroad - we had a big fat vegas wedding too! xxx
You have to do what is right for you though - be selfish - it is the only time you can be selfish and be forgiven for it! xxxx

You should have the day that suits you both. Don't think you're being selfish by going away. Honestly when you look back your whole wedding day is such a whirlwind, you want to make sure you enjoy your day. So if by going away takes alot of stress out of it, then do it. Its not any-one else's day but yours.
I had a small wedding about 70 people or so, married by our family vicar in a village church in the countryside and I wanted an old 30s village hall decked out in bunting. We had a buffet, and a free bar stocked full with cider, beer, wine, prosecco, M&S strawberry fizz (lol) and my sister baked about 15 cakes from the hummingbird recipe book, all on vintage cake stands and platters stacked high. It was a vintage knees up. You want to look back and have no regrets, you wedding is for you only so don't worry about offending people - its almost up there with being pregnant...its your show... xxx
