Do they have a garden ? If so what about a nice tree (something smallish that can be grown in a pot maybe).

I like the tree idea. The traditional "material" or whatever you want to call it for 10 yrs is Aluminium or tin. Was thinking I could get one of those trees that you have in big planter pots that you can shape (don't know what they're called??) and get the planter in silver for the aluminium part of it. Having a problem searching online as i don't know what they're called!

Cake a no go, she's on the cambridge diet at the mo xx

Yup, the ones you can shape are topiary tress but be warned that while they are beautiful when you buy them they aren't necessarily that easy to keep in a good shape unless you know what you are doing.

We've bought lost of different trees for people as present to celebrate the birth of children, weddings and special anniversaries. There are lots of different ones that can be grown permanently in pots. I have a couple of nice japanese maples myself in a few different colours, and you can also get some dwarf versions of fruit trees. There are also things like olive trees and citrus trees but these can be a pain in the proverbial as you can't ususally leave them outdorrs in winter unless you have asheltered frost free spot. Any garden sentre should be able to advise on what is suitable.

A friend of OH's family bought us an ornamental cherry when Izzy was born, it is in a pot on our patio and was a really lovely present I thought.

We got them an Olive tree in the end and planted it in an aluminium/tin looking pot, they loved it!! She's Italian so Olive tree seemed very apt and she said it's the nicest gift they've had and she's always wanted an olive tree. So very happy with that and glad we did it despite other friends thinking it was "interesting"
