Alexanders mummy is infamous around these parts
Default 'The Hospital' last night

Did anyone watch this last night? It was on channel 4 at 9 o clock & last night it was about how the A&E cope now that the majority of their patients are young people so rat assed they can hardly stand up!!

It was really interesting to watch, one young girl came in & she was trapped underneath a taxi & she nearly died cos in the confusion she had been given too much pain killers.

There was another young girl who basically had the skin on her foot ripped off due to falling under a car cos she was drunk, she was lucky that her foot could be saved, but it took 6 ops.

Another young lad was drink driving & his passenger, his mate was seriously injured when he crashed the car,the driver was laughing about & bragging about how much he had drunk & how fast he was going.

Another young lad had been knocked unconsious,i missed how it had happened, but sadly he died as his brain had swelled too much & died.

The Dr in charge was saying that half her time now is spent with drunks & she is spending not enought time with people who are genuinely very ill,one example was a young lad went there cos he had stood too near the speakers in a club & his ears were ringing!

The state that these kids got themselves into was shocking, some of them were only 15/16.

Next week it is all about young girls being pregnant.

I'm thinking it sounds like a very 'blame it on the weans' programme.

No it was based on the youth binge drinking culture & the affect it has on the NHS.

I think its a different topic each week.

I only saw a little of this but what I saw was interesting on many levels. They went through how many people in the NHS were involved from 1 person's 'journey' from having an accident to them being discharged and the cost.

I couldn't believe the friends of that seriously injured young man. Disgusting attitudes.

I enjoyed the prog and thought it showed the way A&E is in the place I work: I have split duties between A&E and a medical assessment ward and thankfuly I only have day shifts but still get to see a lot of the people who have had to stay in overnight cos of "issues".

Glad the consultant had the "balls" to say what many in UK A&Es think: theres so many people coming in drunk and needing treated for alcohol detox or alcohol related injuries that those people who have genuine medical issues dont get the time and "level" of care that they need: they do still get good care but sometimes staff would love to help them more and talk through things but cant as they are so overstretched its unbelievable. Our A&E actually closed its doors for a few hours (to non-blue light ambulance cases who had to drive another 6 miles to another A&E) one night abt 2 months ago as it was so packed and the hospital wards were full so ther was nowhere to move the A&E pts would needed admitted to.

I have really got my eyes opened since moving jobs to A&E (I was in an cancer unit before).

Love to know what issues Susie's place of work has: if theres a lot of drugs and alcohol related attendances there.

I watched the hospital last night finally and found it really interesting, i actually cried when the young boy died, they never said how he knocked unconscious but it was so sad to watch. I also couldn't believe the girl who was given the overdose by accident I'm glad she survived. A&E departments are really put under pressure on weekend nights and I found the doctors and nurses working their really honest and found their opinions to be truthful, they have my respect.

I watched the second one too with the teenage pregnant mothers and found them so frustrating especially the fat girl who smoked, they were still children themselves having children. I really felt for the consultant trying to talk her round into not being put to sleep to give birth, but glad the girl realised that she missed so much.

I'll be watching again next week xxxx
