I am still perservering, I am at day 5 at not giving in and today was the day from hell. He obviously was very hungry and cried for most of the day with extreme tantrums. My day:- He had 1 spoonfull of Cheerios, the 2nd was pulled out of his mouth and urging, I gave him grapes as a snack as he was asking for biscuits, he was crying for lunch so gave him sandwich, savoury eggs (a favourite), nothing eaten & major tantrum. He cried when he woke from afternoon nap until tea time, I gave him waffles, chicken apple balls, veg and after a major tantrum in his highchair he gave in and ate half the waffle and nothing else. I did give him some grapes and rice pudding. Did I do the right thing?? I am keeping going, but it is so so hard. I have every sympathy for anyone else experiencing this situation, I have had this since weaning & it is a nightmare.

I would keep going, but I would also take him to the doctor just to make sure he is okay as far as throat,ears... (and from my personal experince don't listen to any child rearing advice from doctors-many of the male ones especially don't know much and if they do say anything they say it in a way that of course I am right I am after all a doctor..) Anyways-I digressed.
Also how is his overnight sleeping? Daytime sleeping?

Thanks. I am seeing health vis this weds for his weight check etc... He sleeps about 11-13 hours at night. In the afternoon he can sleep anything up to 3 hours. I did speak to my GP today about his fear of food or not eating or just wanting treats and she said that I must not give in and to take him to the health Vis. Spoke to Health Vis and she said that we must crack this, but how???? I don't know what else I can do than what I am doing.

Any advice that you get that really contradicts what you have been doing now, I would think over for a day or two before starting. I think that 5 days is not enough time to relearn bad habits and patterns. 9usually for adults at least for a habit to change it takes at least 3 weeks).

Are you projecting calm to your son, or are you letting out hints of your upsettedness (sorry about the made up word), or frustration out? Noa is 20 months too-and I see that it's a battle of wills and assertion with her.

Also it can also be a frustration cause they know what they want and can't express very well. Noa now says bottle well and hom (which means food for her) AND WHEN SHE SAYS SOMETHING AND WE SAY WHAT WE THINK SHE WANTS AND WE REPEAT the right word, she laughs in glee and happiness that we understood her. (sorry bout caps) She also says stop it, no , don't want....(just the words parents want to hear from their kids eh?)

I think your answer is in either the frustration of not being able to express himself, maybe possibly teething, and a matter of trying to assert himself and get what he wants. Good luck!!!

Hi Noababy

Thanks for your reply. My mum totally agrees with you, he is definetely frustrated as he is so trying to talk and can't make me understand and then cries or tantrums. My Mum looked after him today whilst I went to work and she said she felt awful as he cried and cried for food and when she fed him 'proper food' he had a major tantrum. He is now very lethargic and my mum had to put him down for his nap early, she thinks due to hunger. I'm seeing health vis tomorrow so hopefully she will have that 'magic wand' i need to make it all better. I don't know how much longer I can go on. I did give in to him tonight and gave him grapes, mango & yogurt, I don't know if I should've done this but just didn't know what else to do? I'm so weak!

How about starting with something you know he will like and giving him that. That way he is eating and you are standing your ground.

Big hugs! and trust me when I tell you that years from now you will be wishing for these troubles. As they say little kids little problems, big kids BIG problems!

Thanks. I know you are right. I think of what I put my parents through when I was a teenager!!!!!! I'll see how I get on. Thanks again for listening to my moaning, it is so nice to talk to others who are suffering or have suffered the same things.
