Not in any way invented by me but an amazing response whenever they are put out. Rice balls. A friend of mine who lives in Tokyo said these are extremely popular in the fussy eater cavalry. Cook shortgrain white rice until starchy and only strain slightly, then roll into marble or ping pong size spheres. She said if you use a little syrup, honey or molasses, they stick that bit better and the sweetness does appeal. Gradually, she said, other flavours can be introduced either pureed and used as a dip or mushed and rolled with them. I tried the plain rice balls last night with some garden peas and chicken pits and both girls wolfed through them! I think the shape intrigues them. I found it useful at least!

Well its been a few months since I posted this thread.. and although its not as bad as it was, Conor still is very fussy.
Still on the stews and casseroles most days, at least he is getting his veg, he will eat bananas and yoghurts and cheese readily and toast/bread. Here's hoping when he gets his back teeth he will want to chew a bit more! |

My grandaughter is 18 months old. Ate anything and everything homemade AK puree's from an early age. Then she decided she would throw all food across the room...it was a nightmare. Now although its not the flavour of the food she is very reluctant to eat lumpy foods. Has eaten adult pasta salad in the past but wont eat the AK pasta recipes ( mild flavours and basically what she already eats). My son prefers for her to have puree but I think she is better off having the pasta and spitting out. (Its not 100% she spits out) what she dosnt want so hopefully she will get used to textures. She eats pieces of fruit and toast, sandwiches etc.
I think she needs textured food to develop her muscles in her mouth (She dosnt really talk yet) so feel it is better to try and continue with this type of food a few times a week rather than mash everything like a puree. It would be the easiest thing in the world to mash everything but dont feel it maybe best for my grandaughter in the long run. What do others think??? ![]() |
