Default Help with food

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help. My daughter is nine months old and has been on a rather severe antibiotic (Trimethoprim) since she was born because she has a kidney condition that is under investigation.

She started off very well on solids such as rice and porridge. However, when I make her anything homemade (butternut squash, sweet potato, carrot, apple, pear), she is up all night screaming with wind. I obviously stopped this and had to switch to jars of food. She can only manage some stage 1 food. Anything with lumps of any kind give her stomach pains and she is up for most of the night. She can, however, eat potato and other carbohydrates such as bread. This, in turn, makes her constipated, so it's hard to keep going with this type of food.

She cannot tolerate fruit or most vegetables unless they are pureed and from a packet and aimed at four month old children! I'm not happy with this because I want to know what's going into her body and I want her to get the nutrients suitable for her age group. The kidney specialist has referred us to a gastroenterologist but this will obviously take some time.

Does anyone have any food they could recommend or has anyone experienced similar problems with babies at this age suffering with wind?

Any advice would be great.x

are you BF your lo? if so i would watch out not to eat too much spicey foods or drink fizzy pop this can agrivate babys wind.

you could try to mix other mashed veg into potatos to encourage her to eat them and get used to the tastes. tho im really not sure about the wind. best bet is to see what the docs say or try your HV for faster advice.

keep us posted x
