Default How to get LO to drink cow's milk?

Hi there,

I'm new here and could use some advice. My daughter will be 1 on May 10th. I have recently gone back to work and am trying to get her to drink cow's milk. She was exclusively breastfed until now. I tried pumping and mixing it with cow's milk, but I no longer have enough of a supply to do so. She has never taken a bottle, despite several attempts. The recommended daily intake of milk is around 16-24 ounces and I'm lucky if she gets 6 in one day!
Does it take some time for babies to become accustomed to cow's milk? Is this normal? Is there an alternative to cow's milk? She has never had formula, the few times I tried, she refused it. She eats yogurt and cheese everyday to ensure she gets some calcium, but I doubt it's enough. I'd appreciate any advice

Cheers!

No advice on getting her to drink milk I'm afraid other than RMs idea of a cup!

But the reccomended daily allowance I believe is including intake within their food, so whatever they drink, milk on cereals, yogurts, cheese etc.

My first was never a big milk drinker full stop so I made sure he got plenty from other sources etc.

Goodluck x

I've tried bottles, sippy cups, regular cups and glasses...still no luck.

I emailed a dietitian and she told me to keep trying but not to make a big production out of it. She said don't force it or even praise her when she does drink because it should be a part of normal everyday things. She also said to increase her vitamin D intake (I give her D-drops) until she is drinking cow's milk consistently.

thanks for your help ladies

My LO was never a huge fan of drinking milk when he first made the switch but I just included it in loads of other ways and he was fine. Milk with cereal for breakfast, lots of yoghurt, he loved milkshakes so I'd make those up with banana or other fruit. Plenty of cheese.

does she drink anything from a cup? is it a cup thing? anyway as others have suggested, use milk on cereals, in porridge. rice puddings, give yoghurts, fromage frais, cheese etc etc. milkshake made with banana or other fruit is a great idea, or just with smoothie drink. have you tried hot milk? maybe a dash of hot chocolate?!
