Default What foods can I give 9 month old with no teeth?

My son has been eating purees and mashed banana since he was 5 months old. He loves his food but he still has no teeth and is just over 9 months now.

I'm so worried about giving him meats and chunkier foods in case he chokes. I have tried to give him pieces of banana (instead of mashed) but he just swallowed it whole and I panicked I tried to give him a rice cracker too and the same thing happened.

I am so nervous about him choking but I know I have to move him onto the next stage with food. Recipes for his ages talk about fingers foods etc but I don't think he could manage them yet. What can I give him?

Try giving him sticks of broccoli that have been cooked till tender. I also gave my son bits of chicken finely shredded. Their gums are tougher then you think. Also baby corn is good too. My son is 10 and half months and he has just got his second tooth! Also if you start mashing his food instead of pureeing he will get used to chewing.
The Annabel Karmel cookbooks are great, they are easy to follow and healthy too. You could try your son on baby pasta too, that is soft but also will give your son texture.

Its a learning process for them, try hard foods which he needs to bite. My daughter was a crammer and swallower, once a whole slice of toast

Try foods grated, so he can feed them him self, or bite sized foods.

We used to grate cheese/apple/pear. Soft fruits peach/kiwi/pear.

Try rusks/biscuits/bread/toast/cheerios/weetabix/breadsticks/rasiens/cheese

HTH

They are the devil's food, should be banned from being marketed at kids

Ewww they are rank. I am stretching my breakfast into a 2 hour affair, going to end it with a couple of custard creams now.

I prepared a rusk for my baby but it looked so vile I had to throw it away.

My baby is 8 months and has never taken to purees. The HV told me to give her toast, I was too worried at first but when she started grabbing at my sandwich I gave her a bit of bread and she was fine with it. I'm trying her with the AK chicken balls tonight.

She likes food like kiwi fruit, banana chopped up - will not eat it mashed, avacado, Weetabix etc. Anything soft-ish that she can chew with her gums but nothing pureed.
