Default Juice for baby?

Today the Health Visitor told me that the Dentists do not recommend juice until age two due to the sugar rotting teeth! She told me that my baby could have water or watered down milk

Surely there is nothing wrong with giving juice once they are over 6 months?

What have all you other mums been told?

I'd be inclined to agree to be honest, my almost 9 month old has never had juice, she has water, I think along the lines of she has had nothing other than water so she doesn't know what she's missing, she loves water so I'll continue giving just water for as long as she drinks it.

I don't see anything wrong with giving watered down fruit juice every now and again but as I say she loves water so that's what she gets, she has it from a beaker x

I agree with your HV & SD. Once you give juice there's probably no turning back! Oliver who is 4 now doesn't drink juice. I have offered him if it has been at parties and other kids have been drinking it as don't want him to feel left out but he pulls a face and is more than happy to drink water. x

Ok I have offered water every day and the little one has screamed her head off....she hates the taste of it and spits it back out of her mouth. I am hoping she will gradually come to like it. She gets herself into such a tizzy when she tastes it.

I find it best to leave water always within reach when they are first starting out. Get some non spill sippy cups and just leave them within reach. Let your LO play with them and try the water at her own pace rather than offering it as a drink. My LO has jsut turned 3 and to this day rarely has anything to drink but water or milk.

my daughter used to spit water out aswell shes 6 months, so i just used let her hold her beaker her self and she does play with it more than she drinks it but she does sip it down.. so just be patient and let the baby experiment..
