Default Cereal: Thick Question Alert!

Hi all,

I know I'm going to sound really thick but all the books and websites tell you what to give your baby as cereal but not how!

For example, I understand I can give Weetabix as this is iron fortified, and with full fat cow's milk (my boy is 7 mths old), but how do I do this? Is it mashed up or pureed?

He can't do finger food yet and hates lumps so at the moment we've been restricted to baby rice and porridge with the occasional mix in of fruit.

So how do I go about it?

Thanks so much!
xx

Ummm, sorry to sound blunt but have you ever eaten weetabix yourself? I would say near on impossible to puree as its so soft anyway! With enough milk it will turn to mush!

Most cereals will go soft and soggy with lots of milk if left for it to soak iykwim so just keep trying him with different textures, at 7 months I think my LO was only having porridge and weetabix anyway with pureed fruit mixed in x

My youngest used to love weetabix with enough milk to make it mushy then banana mashed in

What i do is warm my little ones bottle first. Crush the weetabix in a bowl and then add about 4oz of milk and leave to soak for a couple of mins. Give it a stir and if you think it's too lumpy add some more milk until you get the consistency you think baby will eat. as baby gets older and used to the texture you can gradually start adding a little less milk. I also add fruit puree into it to give it a bit of flavour and it goes down a treat. Hope this helps

LOL, thank you ladies! I must admit I've not had Weetabix since a child and couldn't remember what it looked like but this past week I've been giving him this with whole fat milk and he's lapped it up.
We haven't done Ready Brek yet but that's because he's still got his Aptamil Porridge packet to get through but he loves that too so am sure he'll love his Ready Brek.

Thanks again - am sure I'll be asking you plenty of other muppet questions!

Yes you can. I used weetabix and readybrek pretty much from the start for my LO.
