I personally don't take any notice of that sort of thing. My son has 3 main meals. He may or may not have a snack or two depending on whether he wants one or not. We rarely do pudding in our house, but if we do it's after our dinner (regardless of whether that is mid day or evening).
As to what he eats when, well I really don't give it a second's notice. Breakfast is usual fruit and cereals. The other two meals are whatever, but I defintely don't seperate carbs and protein.
I have heard of adults doing some sort of food seperating thing on some sort of diet, but I don't see the need for it myself.
