Default Good Carbs And Non-meat Proteins!

Hi there, can anyone help me. I have a very hungry 7 1/2 month old. She is eating approx 7/8 cubes of veg and maybe 2 teaspoons of baby pasta in the meals depending on what i am giving her plus 3 cube fruit puree after dinner or a yoghurt after tea. HV told me not to up her food amount as she is getting a lot already!!!! Told me to give more protein and carbs to fill her more (already has potato as well in most meals). Tried her with meat - not interested yet. Giving her pastas and lentils. But does anyone know anything about chickpeas? can they have them pureed? also as i have already got meals and stock piles of food done, could i jst blend them on there own and add them to meals as and when? Would they mix well with food that they havent been cooked in? SOrry for the essay but any advice would be most appreciated. Or has anyone got any other ideas!! thanku!

Are you giving her any cereals? Try baby porridge in the morning or evening, you could make rice pudding too or risotto - cooked really well and mashed up. For meat, try making a chicken stew with plenty of veg (parsnip, sweet potato etc) and blending it up - always went down a treat in our house! Ditto fish pie...
Chickpeas and in fact any pulse should be fine as long as they are cooked really well and blended so the skins aren't a choking hazard. You can mix them with stuff you've already made - I think the thing to remember with protein is that a little goes a long way. A teaspoon or two mixed with her veg should be enough at her age. Her milk will be giving her most of the nutrients she needs. Good luck! Is she waking up in the night hungry? If not then you probably don't need to worry too much x

Adding grated cheese to purees. Even at this stage you could introduce finger food. cheese sticks. try meat again! My LOs always loved beef stews etc. I never bothered too much with lentils. Quinoa is supposed to be v high in protein.
Egg is another high protein food! HTH, D

Thank u sooo much for your advice. Yeah i give her baby porridge in the morning mixed with 3 fruit cubes (tried Ready Brek but she spat it back at me). We had a battle with food, she had a bad sweet tooth. All the veggies i gave her had to be mixed with apple. Slowly but surely got her away from that now. Tried her with sweetpot, apricot and chicken about a month ago but she refused that and didn't trust any other food i gave her for a little while longer. May meats again tho! Tried finger foods, but she just doesn't get it. She's never been one for putting things to her mouth. Just going to wait until she is ready i think. No she's not waking up for food in the night. Often wakes for the dreaded dummy but goes straight back off. She cries after feeds as if she wants more. But doesn't cry when she has the pasta. I will sieve all the pulses then is they have a skin - i have never bothered with anything like that before. She's had a cold so not eaten the food for a couple of days now - just milk! hopefully get her back where we was and start with the diff proteins! x

chickpeas are great when mashed. you can soak them over-night so the cooking time won't be so long. we make a spread from chickpeas (it's called Humus) and my kids love it on sandwiches with cucumbers... קייטרינג
good luck with your kid
