Default weaning confusion.....

Hi

I started weaning our daughter a month ago at 5months old. Started with just a spoon of porridge between feed and have now worked our way through all porridges and onto veg purees.

She currently has 3 heaped (dry so makes more) baby spoons porridge with 180ml milk feed for breakfast, a veg puree approx 2 ice cube size with 150-180ml milk, then 2 further bottles of 210ml milk for tea and bedtime. The end of this week i aim to start giving her a third meal for teatime which will be about same size as lunch.

Im confused as to how much porridge and puree food she should be having?!!

thanks

Milk is still her main food source so you only need to make sure she's getting enough of that.

And as for solids, well with my LO I just followed his lead and gave him what he wanted. If he ate 2 spoons fine, if he ate 4 that was fine too. If she's happy with what she's getting now then I'd say stick to that.

I started my lo on porridge at 4 months(just 1 spoonfull and 3 spoon fulls of milk), and now she is 5 months I have just started her on puree veg/apple , I keep getting told to wait untill 6 months but I feel as though she is enjoying the puree veg and apple, I have only just started this week so one day I have gave her puree veg and another apple.

Is this the normal way to wean your baby?
Or should I be giving her more each day?
I still give her her 21 ounces aprox of milk each day.

i started veg puree with parsnip and just did a spoonful of that for 3 days then switched to sweet potato again 1 spoon for 3 days and have worked through the root veg, increasing amount as she liked the taste, now she has approx 2 icecube size amounts.

think a lot is down to what u think ur baby can eat, while still getting all milk. i have found it very confusing tho-more ive read worse ive got!!! i did buy practical parenting book of weaning and thats quite good. vliddle u may find it worth a read.

I have a very hungry son (eused to fed every 2 hours) and started offering him a few spoons of porridge when he was 4 months (I have 2 older children where I was encouraged to introduce food at this age so I thought why not try it), he loved it and soon moved on to some fruit puree, mistakenly though i offered this before any veg, it took a while for him to take to it but now he loves his veggies! Potato and apple mixed is a definite hit! He is now almost 7 months and he sleeps 13 hours at nightand wakes up so content and happy! He has 3oz milky porridge with a bit of fruit puree in the morning, 5oz milk and puree veggies for lunch, 5oz milk and puree meat and veggies followed by fruit or yoghurt for tea and 9oz millk for bedtime. He is so happy and content and a nice healthy weight.

So anyone worrying that they need to wait until 6 months, stop worrying and just go with what your child wants as long as they are past 4 months and you stick to veggies and fruit and porridge you cant go wrong, baby will soon let you know that its too much or not enough. I worried terribly with my first child but learnt 3 children later to just relax and go with the flow! A happy mum is a happy baby :-)

Hope this helps anyone who is worried or stressed........
