Default starting 2 stage weaning

I am about to start second stage weaning but if I give a little to my little one to try she either chokes or spits it out.

What should I do as she goes to the childminder some day and I want to know she is going to eat what I send her rather than choke or not eat it at all

Please can some one help.

I was thinking of starting her on cauliflower cheese and then maybe lovely lentils

Any ideas will be great

I would give little finger foods such as toast/breadsticks/cucumber/roasted veg to get her used to chewing and not worry about her eating it all. at this age food is for exploring and milk is still main source of nutrition.

Pretty much anything can be a finger food and its good for her to learn to self feed.

we didn't get on with finger foods at all for many many months, he kept choking & gagging it was very frightening. i just kept to lumpy foods & gradually increased the size as he gots older. he got there in the end. try not to think that you must stick to the guide about what they should & shouldn't be eating, just go with your child & experiment a bit.

We're on with second stage and Lucie was similar coughing and spluttering, she does like the lovely lentils but hasn't been keen on stuff with cheese (but lancs went down better than cheddar), so I've gone back to the old favourites- sweet veg medley, apple pear and vanilla, butternut squash and pear and just made them lumpier, we're also chomping on toast and fruit wedges. Lucie has cut her first tooth, she went off her food then and just wanted milk, so it might not just be the food!

Hope my ramblings help!

We were told to keep the purees thick and gradually add lumps as babies can't deal very well with 2 different textures at once to start with. It's been a struggle for us but we seem to be making progress. We were also advised to give dissolving finger foods (such as organix carrot crisps) for him to practice on.

Hope that helps.
