Hey, i'm wondering if there's anybody else who has started their child on food before 6 month since the "new rules" came out? I have a 15 week and 6 year old boys, obviously i started my 6 yr old on food when he was 4 month but now there's so many rules and regulations it's driving me mad!! My 15 week old is already on 9 ounce bottles every 2 hours a day and i feel he is ready for food, i've researched and found you can give ffod before 6 month but avoid certain foods. I think the 6 month barrier is silly as there's nothing wrong with my 6 year old, he's a brilliant eater.

I started my son on solids when he was 4 months old, as he was born low weight, and was showing all signs he was ready to try. My son had very poor sleep patterns so after discussing my plans with a health care nurse I introduced solids and he took to it without a fuss. I started slowly with rice cereal, and then apple and pear purees. After a few weeks I introduced pumpkin, which my son loves, and he continues to thrive with solids. Ethan is now 6 months and I am introducing more foods to his menu. He hasn't suffered any problems as far as digestion. As long as you take it slowly, which I'm sure you did with your older child, I'm sure everything will be fine.

I started around 4 and 1/2 months, with baby rice/fruit purees/veg purees. Didn't introduce chicken/fish until 6 months and took it very slowly. If baby is drinking that often maybe consider early stages of weaning. HTH, D x

Hi
I started my son on Organic Baby Rice when he was 16 weeks old, he has reflux and an allergy to Cows Milk. He has started waking up every two hours at night and is not happy with just his milk so tried him on solds and he loves it, trying apple puree today but have given him pureed carrots as well. I also give him a small amount of water in an open cup which he also loves. Only thing i am finding is he is constipated all the time?? Nicola |

I took it nice and slow, though. I was on baby rice for 2-weeks, then 2-days of baby rice mixed with carrot, then 2-weeks of carrot. Tomorrow, she'll start butternut squash for one-week, then I'll move onto sweet potato for about two-weeks (until she's 5-months), then I'll start "real" weaning, where you introduce a new taste every 3-days... By 6-months (5-1/2-months), I hope to be mixing foods and on more textured, or lumpy, foods. She's about 4-1/2-months now, and is on fruity porridge for breakfast, and 3 icecubes of carrot (make my own baby food) for dinner. No-one will beleive me, but she has fed herself since day one... Also, some babies are ready early (like our babies), but some aren't ready even at 7-months. Entirely depends on the baby, so it's not silly to give the guideline, as 6-months is when babies should be wean BY (no later than 7-months, I was reading). Also, by 6-months, most babies will be ready to stomach solids, and something about the tongue-thrust reflex... DD never had a tongue-thrust reflex. Cleanest weaner I've ever met. Lol. Anyways, hope I made sense. Lol. xx |
