Blushing Introducing meats

Hi all,
Hope everyone's having a good weekend so far.

Bit of a dumb question coming up, but like I said before I'm new to the whole make your own weaning food & not a very confident cook.
I've no idea how to go about preparing meats for Alice who's now 7 months & needing a bit more the just veg.

How do you do it?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Jodie

abbie has had chicken and cod so far.

chicken - i have just roasted a chicken leg or thigh in oven (used as cheaper so can afford organic but apparently thighs have more iron so better anyway) brushed with tiny bit of olive oil for abt 35mins or so till juices run clear then taken meat off and mixed in blender with pureed fruit and veg. i have waited till meat cool and blended with cold fruit and veg purees.

combinations that have been succesful have been

chicken, sweet potato & apricot
chicken, parsnip and pear
chicken, parsnip and carrot

cod i literally cooked in micro for 3 mins with tiny bit milk and butter then blended with sweet potato and orange juice (this is an AK recipe), she had this tonight and went down well.

I steamed fish or cooked white fish as above. Also did salmon cooked in a little orange juice in the microwave then blitzed up with carrots and sweet potato.

For chicken I used to use the leg or thigh meat off our own roast chicken which I just roasted unseasoned and without and extra oil. I'd blitz this up with a bit of water and freeze it as it was to mix with cubes of veggies (which I had already in the freezer) when making dinners up each day.

If I was making stock I'd use the meat from the chicken I used to make the stock - usually brown meat as the leg and thigh cuts are a lot cheaper here and much more affordable,

The other thing I used to do and still do now without blitzing it down is to fry off some chicken legs in a tiny bit of oil (leaving them whole with skin and bones and all). Then I add chopped veg to the pan (carrots, parsnips, sweetpotatos would be one mix) with some water or chicken stock. Simmer for about 45 mins till chicken is done. I take the chicken out, take the meat off thebones, put it back in the pan and blitz the whole lot up together.

Once we moved onto red meats (a few weeks after I started with the white ones) I used to just make up an unseasoned stew, make sure the meat was very tender then take out a portion and blitz it up for my LO before seasoning it up for the rest of us. Another favoutite with my LO was the AK liver casserole.

Sophie has had chicken, braised beef and cod so far going to give her lamb this week.

With the chicken I have used thighs and mixed with sweet potato and apricot, recipe here Tammy Wilsons Apricot Chicken & Sweet Potato

I've also made a chicken casserole and then blitzed it.

With the cod I poached it in milk and then add it to veg and cheese sauce.

The braised beef I slowed cooked with sweet potato and blitzed again.

I am going to do AK's lamb and sweet potato casserole this week, slow cooking the lamb makes it easier to eat, this is in the top 100 purees book.

If you have a look at the recipes section on the website there are some ideas xxx
