Default Green veg purees

Hi All,

I'm a newbie at all this make your own purées etc (was a bad mum with DD1 & used jars, how lazy?! lol) and was just after any ideas for a 6 month old using veg such as broccoli and cauliflower.

DD2 loves the trio of veg but could do with some variation from orange coloured mush.

Any tried and taste tested recipes would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,
Jodie

welcome to AK.

I'm weaning my second at the mo. You can add sweet potato to the broccoli and cauliflower or carrot, if you look at the recipe section on the website there is a 6 to 9 month section with recipes by AK.

good luck x

Thanks for that suggestion.
I've had a look at the recipe section & tried the trio of veg which goes down well, but there's not much variation on carrots, sweet pots, butternut squash etc is all.
Tried giving her little florets of broc as a finger food while we're eating dinner so she has something too but the resultant mess makes me cringe!
Might try a broc & coli cheese as I've seen a cheese sauce recipe here...

Don't think she's quite ready for meats yet, but they're the only recipes that seem to use different veg.

in the top 100 puree book there is:

swede, carrot and pea
potato courgette and pea
potato, carrot and sweetcorn

I used to just mix different cubes of veg together for Sophie to have a variety, she does have chicken and lentils now going to introduce fish and red meat soon.

when I was weaning Freddie I used to just make up batches of individual purees, freeze them in ice cube trays and then tip them into zip loc bags to store in the freezer. Half the time I just took out whatever mixture took my fancy (e.g. 1 cube carrot, 1 parsnip, 1 red pepper) the rest of the time I used combinations from the recipe books. I found that by working that way I ended up with a whole load of variation and I never had to worry about having made up a batch of food that my LO didn't like - if he didn't like a particular mix I picked out I just didn't repeat it.

Potato with cauliflower or broccoli and a tiny bit of grated cheese mixed in always went down well here.

Other ideas /from the AK Complete baby and toddler meal planner:
potato, courgette and broccoli
sweet potato, brocolli and cauliflower
carrot and cauliflower
red pepper with cauliflower, sweet potato or potato
spinach with potato, sweet potato or butternut squash

When I was weaning mine they would have broccoli, cauliflower, carrot, parsnip, potato, sweet potato, squash, cougette, etc & I would mix different combinations of 2 or 3 them.

Nothing new to add as I just did what others have suggested. Grated cheese was definitely a welcome addition to the veggies when I was weaning Oliver. x

nothing new to add except that cubes of veg mixed in various varieties is best as you will soon be moving onto second stage weaning at 7 months - AK's lovely lentils is great as goes down well. have you down any apple or pear puree as well as i think you can mix with some of the veg ones too.

Yup that really works. I used to regularly mix fruit and veg and it always went down a treat.
