Default Chicken/ vege stock- where to find unsalted?

Hi all

I have a few of the AK books and most of the recipes use stock. I don't fancy making chicken stock (am a vege myself) and don't reallt have the time.

She does say in her book you cab by unsalted ready made stock. I can't find it anywhere in Oz. I don't think she means salt reduced. I did find salt reduced but it's still 250mg / 100ml.

Any ideas?
Thanks

If you don't fancy making up chicken stock yourself which is totally understandable, then why not make up a big batch of veggie stock instead and use that when stock of any type is called for. I usually use whatever I have in the freezer when making up food for my LO so it could be chicken or veggie that I use regardless of what the recipe calls for. If I'm all out I use water.

I just don't have the time to make stock every few days in addition to her food. I struggle to keep up with home made food for her as it is, as going back to work 2 days/ week!

I had heard that you can water down the low salt stock. Is that ok?

You can freeze stock. I make up a big batch & freeze it in pour & store bags. then when I need it I just take out a bag & defrost

Also if you boil it down a lot so it is concentrated then you have less to store and you just dilute it when you use it.

I found the freezer to be my no. 1 kitchen gadget when I was making up batches of food for my LO (now he's eating what we are and I freeze extra portions). In the past though I would take some time on a Saturday or Sunday and cook up several batches of food. One session of cooking could see me though a few weeks if I planned it well.

I wouldn't stress too much about the stock thing - all stock really does is add some extra flavour. If you don't have it or don't have time to make it just add water for liquid. You should still get plenty of flavour from the fresh ingredients in what you are cooking.

Hi sometimes health food shops have them too. I just used to boil carrots, celery and leek then freeze in ice cube trays. Or add tinned tomatoes/passata depending what the recipe was xxx

Think I might get Mum to make up a big batch when she's here and freeze it!
