Default Bottle/cup question

No I'm not pregnant before you ask why I'm posting in this section.

My question is:

I am tidying stuff that is in the spare room which has been a dumping ground for the past 2 years (plus). I have kept bottles, teats, cups etc that have been used by Rhys taht are still in good condition. Should I ever have another baby, what can I reuse safely? I probably would want to buy new teats as they are old. But if the bottles are in good condition ie non-cracked and look completely clear can I reuse them? I dont want to throw out stuff that would be ok but I dont want to pay a fortune for new Avent stuff when the old stuff's ok.

Any advice? As Rhys is nearly two, should DH and I try for another, there will be at least 3 years between Rhys and any new baby so all teh stuff will be at least 3 years old.

I packed away Isabella's old bottles as I bf till one year so they got no use. I had a couple of bottle I used for expressing which I have chucked and the ones she used to drink out of post one year old which I threw too.

I was think about this last week and I am going to get rid of them. I think for the sake of £20 odd quid I'd want new for a new baby and like you I am going to have three plus years between los. There has been loads in the news about risks with bottles containing bisphenol a and to me it's a tiny risk but not worth it just in case. I'll prob give ours to charity (if they take them) rather than throw them away as they look new and have only been used a handful of times.

I can't say what the professional line is on this one, but we had a few bottles after another baby - just got new teats, as the bottles themselves were in excellent condition and once sterilised they were fine for us.
I would ditch the rubber parts, keep the rest then look at them again when the time comes and decide then.

Heating/washing/daily wear can cause the plastic to release chemicals which may or may not be dangerous to humans. Experts are divided about the risk but they all seem to agree that the chemical (bpa) is dangerous in more concentrated forms but many feel that the amounts released in plastic baby bottles are harmless.

New bottles are ok it's just as they get knocked, dishwashed/sterilised or tiny scratches appear that the plastic coating starts to break down. You can now buy bpa free bottles or just replace them regularly.

Article here about it.

I have heard this too and have replaced everything with new. Luckily my mil bought all our new bottles so it didn't cost me anything!
