Default low blood pressure?

My midwife says I have low blood pressure and need to check it every day but my Dr says its on the low side but ok. Its been reading about 90-50 - is that too low?? I know that low blood pressure can be linked to premature birth and starting worry (again - I know thats all I do). I do feel light headed sometimes but thought that was part of being pregnant. I had my bloods done Monday so should know if anything else is causing it.

Also my midwife mentioned the babys heart rate is fast and told me to tell my consultant tomorrow. It was 169, what should it be and what would cause it to be fast?

Thanks xx

I had ( and always do have) low blood pressure, when I was pregnant I was told to eat some salty crisps if I feel lightheaded to try and bring it up a bit. I though it strange but I'm sure she knows what she is talking about.

Ollie was fine and not premature. Lots of water they also say (but man do you get fed up of peeing, am I right?

Hi Hun!

Been wondering how you are doing! The depression any better?

Some people have normally lower blood pressure than others. Do you have any idea what your non pregger bp is?

I personally had the same type of bp you had and was not worried about it. Caffeine can help raise it right away if you feel dizzy. (btw-bev I assume the salt in the salty crisps was the goal-cause salt can raise bp) Salt can raise blood pressure, but would consult with the doc about how much more salt to use cause you don't want to overdo it. Do you feel dizzy in the morning, or when you get up from laying or sitting down? Make sure you drink enough and eat enough. Hydration is the most important, so do drink-it will also prevent dehydration which can also cause contractions. Also try not to get too hot, that can also cause lower blood pressure. If you are able to wear elastic pregnancy stockings, that may help with your general circulation and increase your bp.
That said-low blood pressure can also affect depression. Here is a list of signs and symptoms of low blood pressure:
Dizziness or light-headedness
Fainting
Irregular heartbeat
Stiff neck
Burning and foul smelling urine
Low concentration
Blurred vision
Nausea
Cold, clammy, pale skin
Rapid or shallow breathing
Fatigue
Depression
Thirst

169 is a bit high. Normal depending when during the pregnancy (last 2 months I believe are at lower range) usually ranges between 120-160. Although they only usually classify fetal distress in embryos as heartbeat over 180. (most use 180, some do go as low as 160 though). How long did the midwife monitor the heartbeat? To be on the safe I would have the doctor do a monitor for at least 30-60 minute and see if that really is the heartrate and then let the doc decide what to do. But I would not freak out quite yet hun.

Lots of hugs and hope you are feeling better soon!

My bp has always been on the lower side of normal. Cant remember what it was tho.

Dizziness or light-headedness
Irregular heartbeat
Low concentration
Blurred vision
Nausea
Rapid or shallow breathing
Fatigue
Depression
Thirst
I have these symptoms regularly. The dizziness can be anytime of day and comes when doing nothing or moving. I am eating well and having a varied diet. Trying to drink more water.

I feel like things are out of my control with the depression and that freaks me out to. Feel like I am going round in circles.

I was thinking of asking my consultant tomorrow if he can monitor babys heat rate over a period of time. The midwife listened to heart beat for longer than normal but probably not more than a minute or 2.

A minute or two is not enough and the doc should put you on a monitor for at least a half an hour to determine average heart rate.

Make yourself a list of questions and take them with you to the doc so you don't get flustered and forget what you want to ask.

Ask about the heart rate.
Ask about something like rescue remdy for the paincky feeling and stuff.
Bring the list of all the symptoms you are having and tell the doc how unbearable it is getting. Maybe there is something that can be prescribed or done to help. Also maybe have them check your iron levels and b12 and thyroid again.
Make a list of your concerns regarding the baby: blood pressure causing early delivery, concerns about early delivery in general.

Lots of hugs hun and remember God doesn't send any challenge your way that you are not equipped to handle. You have the strength to get through this!

I saw consultant yesterday and all is good

I think I panic more just before an appointment .

Decided not to have steriods unless needed. Babys heartrate is fine and is in lots of water still. Having a growth scan in 4 weeks (will be 32+ weeks) to check baby is growing properly. Have to have my urine checked every other week for infection for rest of pregnancy. Feeling more positive for now anyway. My bloods all came back normal. I will be monitored atleast every 2 weeks from now on as baby has been head down on last 2 check ups but I feel it move around inbetween appointments so not to worried. My consultant said if I am worried about anything or anxious just come along to clinic and they will listen to baby or do a scan to reasure me as a happy mummy = a happy baby. xxxxxxxx
