Alcohol Whilst Pregnant?
OK, this is an anonymous poll. Do you drink while pregnant? I didn't last time, and haven't yet. In the U.S. they say no alcohol at all, in the UK I think the advice is one glass, two to three times a week, I'm sure it's different in other countries. But a conversation I had with a woman who told me that she "saves up" her allotted weekly units so she can have "two or three" drinks on a Friday night (and my impression was that it might very well be more) makes me want to ask.... do you drink while pregnant?
As a funny aside, that same woman wanted to know was I taking omega three whilst pregnant, as she was. "It will give you brainy babies," she told me. I thought, "Yeah, or you could just cut out the alcohol!" (As it happens, I do take omega 3 while pregnant, but that's for another poll...)

I didn't drink in either of my pregnancies, the closest I got to a taste was when I gave my oh a kiss and I could taste the red wine on his lips.
I know people who have and they've smoked but I personally wouldn't, you're only going without for a short space of time. Hubby gave up alcohol when I was pregnant with India just to show his support but to be honest I didn't miss it xx

I didn't drink as I could never fancy it.
A friend of mine used to have quite a few glasses of wine and I wasn't comfortable with that. Although I'm sure just the one is no problem at all.

I absolutly am 100% against drinking (and smoking) in pregnancy. The baby is so vulnerable to toxins that even though they say one unit might be sure i would'nt take the risk. I hate seeing pregnant woman out getting drunk as i think that if they cant put their babies health before their own wishes for 9 short months then maybe they are'nt ready for the responsablity of being a mother, which is a complete selfless role. i even had to stop using the alchol hand gel at work as the health and saftey people did'nt know if it can absorb into the blood stream (i think it did as a few times i used it i swear i was slightly drunk) beth xxxx

In general I do not agree with drinking whilst pregnant, even when it was general consensus that a glass or two of wine a week was ok I still never did. (now recommended none at all in UK)
However, on the very odd occassion if we are out having a meal and hubby orders a nice glass of wine I may have a sniff or if i'm very naughty i'll have a sip but that is it. I would never order or have a glass to myself and I hate it when i see other pregnant women drinking or even worse smoking.
I agree it is a short time to go without and even before this pregnancy I never returned to my pre-pregnancy alcohol intake as i was quite happy to go without, could take it or leave it.
Don't shoot me gals!

I have had no alcohol this pregnancy. I'm not a big drinker, and had to abstain during bfing for so long, that I'm totally out of the way of it now.
I must have had some alcohol when I was in the early stages though, as I didn't know. But that would have been 4 weeks or less. In my first pregnancy I was totally wellied just before finding out I was pregnant!! But then, it doesn't take much to get me there heheheheh
While I was pregnant the first time, I did have a few sips of Bacardi Breezer, mainly because I thought alcohol in very small amounts was ok. The advice has now changed, as Jewel has said, so it's a t-total meeeeeeeeee for the next wee while. I'm due in January, but bfing will stop any champagne celebrations for me! I won't have anything alcoholic to drink until the baby's feeding becomes much more predictable, and with longer intervals between. So, I'm thinking, about a year??? PMSL I'll be a one drink wonder by then hehehe cheap date meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

I didn't drink any alcohol whilst I was pregnant, I'm not much of a drinker anyway so it was never an issue for me.
I know a few mum's who had a glass of wine once a week as a treat, but I wouldn't.

was quite a big drinker before preggars - do like my wine, but i did cut right down when trying, i didn't "drink" so to speak during the pregnancy, but very occassionally i took a sip of hubbys beer or wine as i craved the taste of it in my mouth. i certainly never got pissed & never drank a whole glass or anything. i also stuck rigidly to the "what not to eat" guidelines too, but i'm sure plenty of mums to be, still eat peanuts, brie, bagged salad, cold meats etc - all full of potential toxins, germs (listeria etc) (plus allergens). xx
