I had my daughter at the Northampton General. Labour ward was really good, midwife with me though whole of labour and afterwards to assist with breastfeeding, found them to be really friendly and helpful. It was ok on the maternity ward, had my own room and bathroom, nurses etc were helpful and friendly especially with trying to breastfeed. Couldn't wait to get home though as I am not a fan of hospitals no matter how good they are.

I had my little boy at the local hospital, the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. The care during delivery was good, midwifes were friendly and helpful although they didn't have to put up with me for long as I was 8cms dilated on arrival and 2 hours later had my LO.

I spent the night in the Observation ward due to complications with the birth and the care there was very good, they took care of the baby and i didn't have to do a thing. After care on the ward however was not good. The ward was so busy, you would ask for something and then 3 hours later it still hadn't arrived, they had no time whatsoever to spend with you and although they encouraged breast feeding they gave you advice/help in such a rush and literally shoved my LO onto the breast!! Poor wee thing. So i left there the day after the birth and was transferred to a cottage hospital which has a 8 bed maternity ward which was lovely and i stayed a few days. The midwives were great, spent loads of time helping and giving advice and looked after baby if you wanted to go off for a shower etc. While pregnant i always thought I wanted to be in and out of the hospital as soon as possible but at the community hospital it was quite nice to do nothing but spend time with baby and get some rest.

I'm from northampton aswell, i had Abigail in milton keynes as this is where we lived at the time the labour ward was fine i was only in there 4 1/2 hours but the after care was shocking i was on ward with 3 other ladies who were older than me yet quote happily chatted amongst themselves ( i was 21 at the time) who completely ignored me yet happily chatted amongst themselves and when i did try to join in only smiled at me i couldn't wait to get home and the midwives said because i was a nursry nurse i should know what to do so left me too it!! i had my other 2 at Northampton and v.fast labours 2 1/2 hours with Harry and 1 hour 40 mins with Grace and had the same midwife for both deliveries which was nice and the after care was much better too.
