Default Headaches

Since I got pregnant I get headaches more and more frequently, now almost every evening and they seem to be coming on earlier and earlier.

I've never really been a headache-y person but when I did used to get them I'd drink a pint of water and it'd disappear. These headaches dont go away no matter how much I drink (just makes me pee all bloody night!) I have to take paracetemol for it to go away. I didnt take anything for it last night and woke up throughout the night with it and eventually gave in at 5am and took paracetemol then it disappeared.

Should I be worried or is this a common pregnancy complaint? Thanks xx

I found this happened to me too, like you used to drink lots of water but only paracetamol would do. I belive the FOREHEAD stuff that Rachaelmae has recommended is very good, but I havent tried it. xx

Yep, I'm afraid I've had them too!!

I've tried the forehead thingys but apart from feeling lovely and cool, they really don't do anything for the headache itself. I found that my head hurted more when I got tired, could you have a quick lie down when you feel one coming on? I can't coz I've got another little monkey to run around after but if you can I would say give it a go.

HTH xx

Sorry, I've just seen you also have a LO to run around after - of course you can't lie down, if your'e like me you probably don't have time to sit down let alone lie down!!!!!!!

Sorry I can't be of any help, the only positive thing I can say is that my headaches have improved slightly as the pregnancy has gone on xxxx

Hiya Lauren,

First thing I would do before deciding that these headaches are normal is to have your blood pressure checked a few times and possibly even when you are having the headache if possible. Also have your GP do a urine stick on you and make sure all is okay there too.

If that is all good, then try alternating cold and hot compresses on your forehead and head. the alternating of the hot and cold constricts and then dialtes the blood vessels in your head and alleviates headaches.
Also if it is that bad-there is no reason not to take the paracetamol. probably more stressful for the bump for you to suffer than the paracetamol.

If all of the above fail, you may want to look into alternative medicine-although not all practitioners (especially acupuncturists and refloxologists-which are the 2 I would reccomend) are comfortable treating pregnant women.

Feel better!

Im not a headachey person but when I was having baby no 3 for the first 4 months I had stinking headaches all the time within minutes of getting up. The docor said it was my hormones racing and they would stop a bit further on, which they did think I was about 14/16 weeks. Hope they stop soon.
