Default Has anyone had this done?

I saw my consultant today and I have been advised to have my cervix checked to see if this is the reason for Georgia being premature and if it is then this baby should be 'stitched' in until 36 weeks to prevent it happening again. I am due to have the scan at 16 weeks but even if my cervix looks normal then they will need to keep checking it to make sure it isn't changing. The stitch will be put in under anistetic (sp) which really worries me. My consultant said it is very successful and carries no more than the normal risks of an operation. Has anyone got any experience of this? The stitch would be removed at 36 weeks but whilst I am awake.

I had another scan today and my little bubba was dancing around everywhere, waving its arms and legs, turning around and bouncing about it was so funny and Georgia pointed at the screen and called it a fish again!! It was nice to she bubba after being so ill this week. xxx

I have no experience of this and dont know anyone who has had it done. However I remember seeing it on the Portland Hospital programme on Discovery Home & Health channel. Again they said it is a very effective procedure and prolongs the pregnancy which benefits both mother and baby.

I have read about this procedure, and by all accounts it seems safe and effective. Is it a local or general anaesthetic they are giving you?

I had a minor operation on a lump on my shoulder when I was 36 weeks pregnant with Ethan and the local anaesthetic they used was perfectly safe. I was worried too but they reassured me about it.

I'm sure if they do decide to do it then it is for the best reasons. Gotta keep that Bubba warm!

I know 2 people personally ( a cousin and close friend) who have done this. My cousin had miscarried a few times and it was 10 years till she finally had a child. My friend had this a few times (I think 4 to be exact-she has five kids, and the first one she gave birth in the eight month) After the first premature birth, she always has had to take it easy in pregnancies and gets stitched. Works really well. When she starts her ninth month they remove the stitches and she can do whatever she wants.

Would definately have it checked and done if you have this problem!

I'm not sure but I think it's a general.

I would do it if it is best for baby but it just worried me when the consultant started talking about it. I always think of questions afterwards aswell so I have been writing them down all day for next time.

i had to have internal scan every two weeks from 26 week when i was pregnant with finley but lucky my cervix was good and they stopped scanning at 36 week

hope you don't need to have the stitch but i think i would of had it if they said i needed it.

my consultant discussed this with us but unfortunately that is as far as it went, I was happy to go ahead with the procedure due to the pregnancy and other problems which I won't go into too much detail with but due to one thing or another it never happened, (appointments were cancelled etc) and India ended up arriving 6 weeks early so to avoid all the trauma of a prem baby I'd be pushing to have it done ... good luck with whatever you decide xxxx
