Unhappy Can't sleep

I'm really having trouble sleeping at night at the moment. I'm not that uncomfortable because of the baby yet and sleep fine during the day when Logie goes for a nap. It's after midnight here now and I'm dreading going to bed because I know I just won't sleep I've had some warm milk but this hasn't helped so far. Does anyone have any other ideas to help me sleep? I know I can't take anything medical to help me sleep because of the baby, but I'd really appreciate any ideas. Normally I never have trouble sleeping!

I'm sure it's because I'm worrying about the birth and having to leave Logie for any amount of time because I've never been away from him for more than a few hours before! Hubby won't consider the idea of a home birth but I've been thinking more and more about it recently as I wouldn't have to leave Logie at all then. Told hubby that its better for me to arrange a home birth so I'll have a midwife here with me than refuse to go to hospital during labour! I'm sure once the baby's here I'll sleep really well but won't get the chance to, typical! xo

oh hun, so sorry you can't sleep. I would just suggest all the usuals, warm milk, turning off the computer and allowing yourself to wind down and try not to think about too much. Would massaging your tummy and just singing and talking to your little one help take your mind of the things you are worrying about. I'd also suggest a warm bath but perhaps it's a little late. Do you have any calm music you could listen to or have you got a book to read if you need some sort of distraction? I always promise myself I'll come on here for 10 mins before bed because I am so tired but then I wake myself up again reading all the posts, etc !! Sorry not much help but try to just think nice thoughts, take away all distractions and get some rest.

Won't mention the home birth tonight as I don't want you to think about things when you should be trying to get some sleep so I'll post again tomorrow.

But I hope you can relax, unwind and get some rest - if it continues perhaps you need to cut back on your nap during the day to see if that helps until the night feeds start when your new lo arrives.

Take care and hopefully you'll get to sleep soon xxxxxxxxx

Aw thanks for the advice! Hubby thinks it's the nap during the day but I only usually get 1 - 1 1/2 hours in the morning so I'd be surprised if that made a difference! I probably shouldn't be on the computer this late but I try to get all the housework done first and Logie was up til 10pm again tonight so we didn't eat til late and I really miss it if I don't get online to catch up with all the gossip every day! I'll maybe try to get on during the day tomorrow instead! Definitely going to turn off the computer now! xo

I'm a raging insomniac too, but for different reasons LOL!

I find reading a few chapters of a book usually does the trick, or if I'm really desperate I have a cup of camomile tea.

You have my sympathy, laying in bed wide awake is no fun at all! I often used to sleep on the sofa in the last few weeks of my pregnancy as I could fall asleep there, but not in bed. Bizarre!

Hope you manage to get some rest tonight.

((((((Hugs))))))

I find relaxing in a bath with a few drops of lavender oil helps - I also usually take a book or magazine in with me and by the time I get out I feel zonked.

I've also read that if its things racing around your mind that keeps you awake, keep pen and paper by the side of your bed and scribble down what you need to do, whats troubling u etc then forget about it for the night!

i suffered too when pregnant. My SPD meant it was painful to lie down and agony to move but i am such a fidget in bed that i was moving lots and then crying from the pain. Dont even get me started on the toilet breaks!!! I was so shattered that i had to sleep in the day, no excuses. I found that a nice warm bath and ovaltine helped me unwind and feel sleepy. I also used a lavender spray, dont know if it helped but smelt nice on my pillows. Also like jewel said write down any worries and try to forget them beth xxxx

Thanks for the great advice everyone! That all makes sense and sounds like a lot of good ideas! I'll try a few out tonight! I'll try to stay off the computer too! I have four new books I haven't had a chance to read yet so maybe start one of those off in the bath! I have lavender oil too so maybe try that and a few drops on my pillow! That's also a good idea about writing things down, I'm a mad list maker anyway so I'll definitely try that! It doesn't help that hubby is such a bed hog that I hardly get any room to lie, probably why I sleep so well during the day since he isn't here! Just remembered my midwife does homeopathy so I'll see if she has anything to help me sleep or even help me relax in the evenings! Thanks again everyone! xo

Hey honey sorry to hear you're not sleeping well. I know how you feel, when I was carrying Henry I couldn't sleep great towards the end.

Have you tried serum's like lavender that you can spray on your pillow? A nice scent that you love, if you spray it by your bed, it can help you wind down.
When you go to bed, take cucumbers (just little slices not the whole vegetable! lol) and when ur tucked in lay them on your eyes, the cooling sensation can also be calming.
Do you have a tv in your bedroom, I would fall asleep to a film that way I wasn't getting agitated laying in bed awake whilst my OH slept like a baby! And eventually I would drift off.
Organics in Debenhams do lots of scents and lotions that smell lush, now I know when your expecting theres not alot of things we can indulge in, but warm bubble baths by candle light are always very yummy. Radox do a bubble bath with Calendula its in a pink a bottle I bought it for my auntie at xmas, it has homeopathic healing properties in it and it smeels great (plus ladies its pink! yay)

Hope this helps xxxxxxxxxxxx
