LarasMummy is infamous around these parts
Default Horrible horrible nausea!

I'm 6 weeks pregnant and all day and often during the night I have terrible nausea. I'm not actually throwing up loads - just a few times a day, if I am careful not to get too hungry, but the nausea is really bad. That and the tiredness and the sore boobs (I do not enjoy being pregnant)

I can barely set foot in the kitchen without it getting really bad and I've not been able to cook for the past 3 days. Poor Lara has been living off porridge and omelettes and it has been hard enough to prepare those things. My lovely MIL has brought round food everyday for the last 3 days (soup/bolognese etc) which has been brilliant. I am ok if the food is in front of me and I start eating quickly but just the thought of cooking makes me feel so sick.

The problem is my OH is in such a bad mood about it, saying I'm just using it as an excuse to be lazy and wondering how he is supposed to survive when I "won't" cook. For the record he can't cook and seems reluctant to learn He said he has never heard of a woman who can't cook because she is pregnant! I feel really bad that I've not been able to prepare decent meals for Lara because she has to eat what she is given. I have no sympathy for my OH who I think is being very unsympathetic!

Has anyone else experienced this?

sorry to hear, that you are having a bad start in your pregnancy.
Hopefully it will stop soon, fingers crossed.

I am not much help, as i did not feel sick during my pregnancy.
Hope others will be able to give you some advice.

Plenty of sympathy here! I boked a lot with this pregnancy (and still am sick every week or two) and with Rhys the vomiting stopped when I had him... So hope you dont fall into the sick the whole way thru but it you do, just do a sweet smile at all those who tell you it will pass... Either that or murder them...

I couldnt prepare food esp omelettes or bolognese for ages as it just smelt awful. We had ready meals or chicken things or filled pasta with tomato based sauce a lot! Much prefered veggies to the meat part of meals!

To help, I drink loads of milk, and I found ice lollies (ie juice type ones) and "wet" fruits like strawberries and melon helped as well as helping you up your fluid intake. Maybe worth a go? Ginger did naff all for me. I did wear those wrist things and was still sick with them on during both pregnancies but was afraid to take them off til abt 16 weeks in case I would be even worse.

At 12 weeks, I did get antisickness medicines from doctor as I couldnt even get into work (8 miles away) or down to GP surgery (3 miles away) without vomiting...

On the plus side (there is one???!!!), its a great sign that the pregnancy is v strong!

H

Yes I had very bad morning/evening sickness too!
I tried ginger, wrist travel bands and as last resort acupuncture which did help i think. Also I used to nibble on crisps, and even drink coke sparingly.
Congrats on pregnancy and as Hiann said it's supposed to be a good sign!!

I had accupuncture with Rhys. Didnt help: on multiple ocassions I vomited before and after. Having said that, it was relaxing and I did fall asleep with the needles in.

I had terrible nausea with both my girls from morning to night but was never actually sick! I was just the same though, couldn't stand the smell of food, couldn't cook and was so tired I could barely function! I also couldn't go into a supermarket because the sight of food made me want to vomit On the plus side though, when I got to about 15 weeks it eased off both times so fingers crossed it may be the same for you. As for your OH (bloody men) get him on here and let him read these replies!

I was sick every single day of the pregnancy and once, I came in through the back door and the smell of the kitchen with food cooking made me vomit onto the kitchen floor. Nice......

Pregnant women and increased sensitivity to smells is common.

Firstly Congrats on your fab news

Secondly, Men are nobheads......FACT, come on here, we'll give you laods of sympathy

Thirdly, I was feeling very sick throughout my pregnancy with Finlay too. Like others, I just resorted to having to actually "cook" very little. Would Lara have pasta with just a cheese or tom sauce for example and some raw veggies cut up say? You can buy sauces that aren't too laden with salt etc and should be fine temporarily? It's hard because unless you're the one "feeling" the sickness, we don't know what you could stomach and not IYSWIM?

I'm so sorry you're feeling so rubbish but like Hiann said, I was always told it was a good sign of how strong the pregnancy was too, doesn't make it any more pleasant to put up with I know but hopefully it won't last too long for you.

BIG hugs xxxxxxx
