Default Gbs

I tested positive back in april. So they are planning to treat me with antibiotics but am a bit unsure about it as i read they can make a simple birth complicated and im gonna have to stay in over night which i really didnt want to do.

Just wondering if anyone had the antibiotics and if they had any effects on u. Also would it be a possibility to get retested nearer the time do u think???? i just want to be back home with my boy and new baby not staying in hospital. I HATE IT IN HOSPITAL.

xx

Hey hun, big hugs xx

I tested positive for GBS with Theo. I had antibiotics through labour. I think you would need to stay in so baby can be observed for syptoms of GBS. If I remember right Theo was given permission to go home the following day but because I had a c section I had to stay a bit longer. C section was nothing to do with GBS. The problem with re testing for GBS is that you can show positive on one test then next time negative. I personally think the risks to baby outway the downside of having antibiotics via drip. I know many women who have had normal deliverys and happy healthy babies and are positive GBS to.

I had no affects to the antibiotics and neither did Theo. To be honest it takes a minute or 2 for the midwife to put the antibiotic through the drip every 4 hours (I think).

Big hugs and try not to worry xxxx

I tested positive with Imo. i had the antiobiotics during her labour. My only complication was it made my hand swell up quite big, but was told that was normal, i was more upset they made me take off my wedding ring!!! but glad they had!! (also the week before they thought i might be in labour so i had some then but the midwife didnt put it in properly and it hurt like hell, couldnt bend my hand without awful pain, but next week they did it fine and no pain)
They have to keep you in to check for symptoms, even if you have had the antibiotics.

I didn't have GBS bit had IV antibiotocs during labour with Ethan because of a temperature. It was the epidural and syntocinon and not the antibiotics that elongated my labour.

I think the need to keep your baby safe is paramount. GBS is very dangerous for a baby during birth and the antibiotics are there to prevent your baby becoming potentially very ill. So, if you need to stay an extra night to keep your baby safe then that seems the best logic to me.

I understand you wanting to get home. I was just the same when I had Elodie, but they made me stay overnight just to make sure we were both OK.

I know i probably sound selfish and i must stress that i want to and will do the best for my baby. But i really don't like the idea of leaving Nasir due to the fact his father has absolutely no idea when it comes to looking after him doing the basics. Fingers crossed its just the one night!

Also im stressing the anti biotics will make me have a complicated birth and make me be in longer. As the birth with nasir was bad enough and i didnt have any drugs or anything!

Oh well. Thanks for ur comments ladies. I must admit im still hoping she born in the night and they let me out the following evening!

Is there any other family close by you could leave Nasir with? Failing that his father will just have to get with the programme & help out with him before you have the baby so you don't have to be stressing about it. Hope it all works out. x

My mum would come and watch Nasir but the problem is Nasir has never been without me or his dad. He is with me 24/7 and rarely once in a while he goes with his dad somewhere. I thought mum would watch NAsir but then i have decided against it, im going in to have baby on my own and Baz can stay and watch nasir. I dont want nasir to see that hes been left without us for first time then a baby 'appears' iykwim. so i figure it will be best if baz stays and i go alone. Unless i got into labour at night baz is coming with me and mum can stay with nasir until morning at which point baz can come home for him.

I'm just gonna see what happens between now and then and let it sort itsefl out. i just know baz wont manage to keep to nasirs routine and i will pay for it when im back!

Beccy, talk to Nasir about it. I spoke to Ethan everyday leading up to Elodie's arrival about how I would be going to hospital and bringing home a baby sister for him to love. I was worried about how much he'd understand of what was going on but he really surprised me and wasn't in the least bothered about his Uncle being there in the morning and not me or Mr H.

Your routine will change anyway and a day really won't make much difference. Try not to stress too much about it.

Thanks for that Ellie. I hadnt even thought about trying to explain to Nasir seems silly now.

I know routine will change but i dont want his bedtime being messed round with as hes a real pain. He had me up about 4 times last night. i can cope with other things not being just so i just dont want him to be given any freedom at bedtime.

I will start trying to explain to him. He will actually be a month or too older than ethan was so hopefully will have similar understanding.

I agree with Ellie. Georgia was just 2 when theo was born and she loved having him around. Do talk to him about his new baby and how he can help. Georgia was at my MIL's from tuesday till Friday when I had theo and we had no problems with her.
