hi, i have a boy with spina bifida and i was blaming myself for it because everytime i took the folic acid i threw up, i did take another but i worried i hadn't taken enough.
I wasn't planning on being pregnant so quick so i wasn't taking it beforehand, i started as soon as i found out at about 6 weeks and when i asked the specialist if it was my fault for not taking enough he said that the main damage happens between 4-6 weeks of pregnancy so i couldn't have stopped it.
if you are trying i would sugest you are taking it daily

I took Pregnacare whist trying for Livy, throughout and whilst breastfeeding every other day or when I remembered too. I'm taking it now but now it has seperate omega 3 tablets with it too - how things have changed (I sound like an old dear)

Took it from when I found out (had been planning to take it before but was reckoning on things taking longer so hadn't got round to getting a supply in).

Stopped at 12 weeks. Also took some Omega 3 stuff while I was taking the folic acid.

I took the pronatal vitimins a few months before trying right up til a few weeks after i stopped expressing, they say folic acid during the whole pregnancy can cut heart deisese later in life, at the end of the day it wont do any harm to keep taking ti
