Default party recipes

Hi. Does anyone have any easy party food ideas/recipes please? I've got the party planner books on order with the library so any suggestions what to try from these as well please. Her birthday is a week on Sunday and I haven't organised anything yet apart from a practice run of the cake.

Thanks Xxx

Not done the birthday party thing myself but have had other parties where I've been catering for children and adults. I try to keep thing as simple as I can so I don't give myself too much work. Things I do include:

sausage rolls, filo pastry parcels, spring rolls. I make these up in advance and freeze them then just pop them in the oven on the day to heat through. Or I take the easy option and buy them.

jelly pots (small paper cups are perfect for individual portions)

mini muffins. I bought a load of mini muffin silicon cases on ebay, the muffins don't stick so are easy to turn out when cooked are the perfect size for little people. You can do savoury ones too - perfect to serve up with a nice dip for the adults.

rice krispie buns - I always had them as a kid and still love them

crisps and nibbles

sandwiches or wraps. For the adults I often just do a cheese board with a plate of cold meats and a few nice relishes and pestos. Served up with a nice selection of crackers or fresh crispy rolls.

The Princess Party Cookbook is really good as is the Party Planner. Avoid the jammie dodger hearts they will make you want to punch something for a prolonged period they are so fiddly..... Sausage hedgehog is very easy and popular, cheese/cucumber croc also nice and my OH loves doing the jelly boats, he spends ages cutting the sails just right

Failing that cut sandwiches out with cookie cutters into shapes, whack some crisps into a bowl and do some choc crispy cakes

Stinky put a good spread on for JM's party this year, even did a cake in a box. I always seem to get carried away with party food and do too much but the adults always seem willing to help eat everything.

Thanks everyone, loads of fab ideas. Thanks for the heads up on the jammie dodger hearts, that's the sort of thing I'd probably have picked to try but don't think i'll bother! PMSL at a cake in a box!
