Emma would be a good one to ask, she is a bit of a cake expert
makes lots for friends and family. For a first attempt i would just make a basic chocolate sponge and fill with either buttercream or choc buttercream, and then use a cake topper like thisPingu 7.5" Rice Paper Birthday Cake Topper! on eBay (end time 10-Aug-10 23:44:45 BST) If your feeling brave you could maybe make a small pingu to go on the cake board, depends how creative and arty you are? I love making cakes, but im rubbish when it comes to making charachters! This is a good basic recipe for the sponge, but you will need to add cocoa powder to make it a chocolate sponge! Victoria sponge cake recipe: Recipes: Good Food Channel Hope that helps a bit, good luck!! ![]() |

hi hun, depends how adventurous your feeling
my local cake dec shop has different shaped tins they hire out. £2 a night i think they are. anyway, could do 1 of those in the shape of a penguin and cover it in icing. or do a normal cake (square or round) and make little penguins on the top. my basic sponge recipe i use is...8" round cake tin... 8 oz self raising flour 8 oz marg/butter ..whichever you prefer but use full fat coz diet marg is crap for baking, your cake wont rise very well 8 oz caster sugar 4 eggs drop of milk. 1 tsp vanilla extract for vanilla cake 1/2 oz cocoa powder if you want choc cake, add a little extra milk too. pinch salt. in a jug, beat eggs with milk. beat butter & marg till they go pale and fluffy. add in abit of egg mix and bit of flour alternating till all mixed in. dont over mix or sponge with be heavy. pour into lined tin. bake for about 40 mins ish, depending on oven, 180c butter cream... 3oz butter/marg 9oz icing sugar ddop of milk to make it nice and spreadable. add 1oz cocoa powder for choc butttercream, or 1/2 tsp of vanilla if using a bigger tin, increase mixture ie...... 10oz, 10oz, 10oz 5 eggs for a 10inch square cake i use 12 12 12 6 but if your carving your cake you'll need a firmer mediera sponge mix...let me know coz i dont remember all that off my head Hope that helps add me on facebook if you want emma parker, same goes for any other ladies too ![]() |
