Georgia had her BMI done in may at school which I think all year r kids do. I got a letter this week to say she is under weight and will be regularly monitored.
What a load of bull!!! She isn't under weight at all. She eats loads too. The school want her weighed every few months which I have already told them they don't have my permission to do. Also I can go parenting classes. As she is on the referral list she is entitled to free activies at our local sports centre. Which is the only plus side to it. Only thing is she is already quite active so may be lighter after the summer with all these activities ![]() Have these people ave nothing better to do. |

Oh hun that sucks. These BMI charts are bull anyway, according to those I'm normal, which clearly is wrong
And hubby is "obese" which he absolutely is not. And I have noticed that just 1lb can make all the difference between which category you fit under! ![]() Try not to let it get to you too much, although I know it's hard. Finlay is the same, he eats and eats and eats like I've never seen a child eat and he is so skinny! Children are active, they burn it off, these health professionals should know that better than anyone! xxxx |

yes defo wrong for a 5 yr old, if she eats healthy & is active - then whats the problem, its not like you're starving her!! was she premature?? i think that can make a big difference to a childs development. I used to be skinny as a rake when i was young, really painfully thin, bones sticking out & everything, i was eating normal so it was never questioned, but it was just the way I was tall & thin (like my mum & my dad). sadly it didn't last!! am now pretty normal size height & a bit overweight!

What a load of pants! I suspect Finley would fall under this category too but as you have all said, he eats plenty and a good variety but is so so active and has always been slight......as they would see if they looked at his red book even from when he was a baby. Ruby is following the same pattern!
Fancy telling you they will be monitoring every couple of months, surely this is what our health visitors are for???? I understand that maybe for some families they do need to monitor and provide guidance which is a good thing but there are ways to go about it and by simply having a letter like that home could worry and/or panic some people. Luckily you are a sensible mum Cole x |

That's just plain wrong. I can understand the need to monitor obese children, but in all honesty it sounds like they have too much time on their hands. Freddie is small and very slight for his age. His paediatrician isn't in the slightest bit worried as she knows he is healthy and that it is obviouls just his nature. Making judgements based soley on BMi is ridiculous.
