Default school rejection...

so far 4 kids from playgroup have been rejected from their preference sof primary school...

After the horlicks last year and pre-school places (51 in my town didnt get placed) it looks like theres a similar issue this year made worse by the fact that the boys prep has closed....

Thats awful news for those parents and children, it's so hard to pick a school to start with but to be rejected from all choices and have to start looking over again I think its just going to get worse as the birth rates have kept increasing since the year Matthew and Rhys were born and nothing is being done about extra school places, instead they are closing some and making teachers redundant.

Fingers crossed for Rhys getting his place.

Maybe you will be one of the lucky parents! I hope so anyway, we have a similar problem here to, too many kids and not enough places, school are having to open up more class rooms in order to keep the classes at 18 kids per class and its mad, there was a few women being escorted out of the education building the other day because they were fighting over school places?!?!?

It was mad!

Hiann that's awful but sadly this is the problem country wide too many children not enough spaces. Jessica's school changed to 3 form entry last September so she got a place and luckily Sophie will have a sibling place, the bigger problem is when they get to secondary school

Primary 1 and 2 classes in Scotland are capped at 18 pupils they can get round it a little by saying that they have a primary 1/2 class and shove a few more in but that doesn't seem to happen often in my area

Which is great for Nathan as he FREAKS when he is presented with a large group of kids

round here the classes are sitting mainly at 30 per class in primary school!

Its never happened before in this area and we were under teh impression as were the headteachers last year than after the preschool cock up it wouldnt happen again when this yr's preschoolers got into primary.

There seem to be two schools undersubscribed in my town: one has a bad reputation with everyone; the other is in prob the worst estate (drugs/ had paramilitary connections in past): in fact its undersubscribed as many parents who do live there obviously want a better future for their kids and arent applying to it and are applying to schools outside the estate!
