Default Weaning before 6 months

Hi everyone

I planned to wait until the six month mark to wean my lo but he showed definate signs before then, i.e. not satisfied after his bottle and only going 2 to 2 1/2 hours between feeds, when he's always gone 3. He's always been an eager baby when it comes to his food and started on bigger milk feeds quicker than the reccomended guidelines.

So, I started weaning him at 17 weeks and have followed AK's complete baby and toddler meal planner to the letter (I like instructions!). Anyway, I am now struggling as I'm unsure what to do next. The final page of meal planner for this stage would now put Charlie onto his three meals a day and introduces toast as finger food. Charlie is now 23 weeks. He has taken to his food really really well and loves it, plus still drinks 28 fl oz a day. Do I still keep feeding him just veg and fruit purees until 7 months? Do I still puree them until an inch of their lives until 7 months? Should I move onto breakfast, lunch and dinner? What age finger foods? Any suggestions/advice/thoughts greatly appreciated xxx

Hi, my son is the same age and again is a very hungry baby,i started his wening earlier than recommended as he was taking 330mls of milk 4x a day and still not feeling satisfied!

Now his milk is slowly beginning to decrease a bit (but only a bit)

My first baby was weaned at 14 weeks and it didn't do her any harm and she turns 18 in 3 weeks time!

I'm starting now to just mash his food and leave it just slightly lumpier as he seems to cope with this now.

Hope this helps

Karen xx

Hi, I weaned my lo at 17 weeks also. I followed the same meal planner but I did stick to the pureed stuff for 6 month olds until she was 7 months old as the child isn't supposed to have wheat. I did mix and match stuff though and introduce new fruit and veg all the time. Although with her milk she was a very hungry baby (on 42oz before deciding to wean!) she enjoyed the purees and lasted until 6 months xxxHope this helps

i too started at 17 weeks with the AK meal planner, i just carried on with the stage 1 plan til 7 months - i did not puree quite as much though, i didn't do finger foods that much as he struggled with them, i put this off til lumps were coped with better. don't think there are any hard & fast rules really, other than the allergy ones re wheat products, meat, cows milk from 6 months. xx

Thanks for that, it's a great help. You know, each day I say to myself, just chill out, there's no right or wrong way', then the little doubts set in! One last quesiton, should I move onto breakfast, lunch and tea, i.e. I am on the second from last mealplanner/routine on stage one of weaning, should I move onto the routine where it's more like the 'proper' meal times, am I making sense??
