Default Constipated 1 Year Old

Does anyone have any help to offer regarding constipation? My daughter is 1 next week and seems to be constipated a lot lately. She won't eat weetabix mixed with whole milk, and doesn't like orange juice mixed with water, which are the things I have been recommended. I've also tried sneaking prune juice into her porridge and her water but she won't have them. Any ideas would be very gratefully received, as its horrible when she cries when she's trying to go to the loo

Try grated tomatoes and more water.

Thumbs up

Does she like grapes? Or banana mashed into her porridge (or apple). I used to mash banana, pear and avacado up together as a meal for baby (shes almost 2 now), try that too, I'd used less avacado and more banana or pear to suit baby's taste. Good luck.

Hi my lo gets constipated from time to time (13 months). Usually when she's had quite a bit of cheese! Not the usual suspect I know but my mum said it did the same to me. I do massage her tummy though and that still works, not instantly but within an hour. xxx

Isabella has chopped prunes and apricots in her morning porridge and this keeps her far too regular.

Thanks for all the advice. I will give the ideas a try. I have also taken her to the doctors and she has said Sophie needs to drink more water and has given her some lactulose. I have also found some anabel karmel recipes in my book which say they are rich in fibre, so will try some of these. Thanks again. Jane xxx

Hi,

A great way to relieve constipation if it has been going on for a while is to your child some brown sugar and warm water ( it must be brown sugar it does not work with white). You only need a bit on the end of a teaspoon mixed with a small amount of warm water (warm enough to fully dissolve the sugar). I would try and give it to her on its own and if she wont take it then try a syringe.
This can work relatively quickly. If it doesnt work straight away then give another dose in the evening. Obviously this is only a temporary solution, so keep trying to increase the fibre.

Good luck,

Sharon.
