Default carbs

Hi All
Just having a blank moment and am trying to find alternative carbs for Tilly - who still refuses to eat potatoes in any way, shape or form (not even chips, strange girl!) and she won't eat bread either.

she likes pasta, which we give her a lot, and she likes rice - sometimes, though can be fussy with this too - if she has too much rice in ratio to the sauce bit!

she'll eat toast, so often have that - with cheese/ beans etc, and she likes crackers - though tends to eat the cheese off it and only a bit of the crackers (little monkey)

so - any suggestions?

cous cous springs to mind, but is not something I make regularly - so if you have a tip - please also pass on your favourite way to use it, re. preparation!

many thanks
xx

I have made this for Alexander with cous cous,

Tangy Plummy Chicken

What about rice? Will she eat that? If so try the traffic lights recipe i made up as that has quite a bit of rice in it.

Does she like pizza base? Could you make a pizza for her?

Our fave way woth couscous is the plainest to be honest: pour over boiling water, cover and leave to soak - it is recommended ten minutes but I find it is softer and therefore easier for LOs to eat if it is left for about 20 minutes instead. When I fluff it up with a fork, I add a little olive oil and lemon/orange juice or vinegar, usually balsamic as it is quite sweet too.

You could try noodles, either egg or rice ones.

What about different breads like naan or other flatbreads? Altho you might have tried those already.

Sweet Potatoes are a carb too - LOs usually like the sweet taste of them.

Hi,

Molly is exactly the same at the moment and has been for a while. I have cooked potatoes & sweet potatoes in every way you could possible imagine and she just will not eat them! She too likes pasta and rice but there's only so much of the stuff you can give don't you think!?! I've resorted to buying 'smiley faces' which I will try tonight but am cooking some rice as well as I know I'll probably need it!

Bread has also been a problem for ages too, although the last 2 days we've had a breakthrough and Molly has eaten a sandwich at lunchtime - I could whoop with joy!

Have you tried toasting a muffin with perhaps cheese on top, Molly will sometimes eat a bit of that (although she does tend to pick of the topping and leave most of the muffin) and sometimes she'll try a bit of raisin bread too. One thing she always eats is garlic bread, although I know it's probably not the healthiest thing in the world for your LO to be eating!

I can't really think of anything else to try but will await your replys with interest!! xxxxxxxxxxxxx

We do our own garlic bread which is poss a bit healthier than bought... but mainly we do it this way cos OH doesn't like it so he can just have plain bread.

I wrap a baguette in foil, drizzled with a little olive oil first, and bake for 10 minutes at Gas 7/200C. Meanwhile, I mix a little garlic oil - sometimes dried oregano too - into unsalted butter (you can soften it in the microwave first to make it a bit easier). This way I can just spread the butter on mine and Evie's bread at the table, and hubby just has ordinary butter.

these are all fab - cheers girls - I knew I could count on you for inspiration!

we've tried sweet potatoes too - Tilly used to LOVE it, but has gone off them again which is a bit annoying.

yeah, forgot to say that Tilly will eat toast/ cheese on toast and garlic bread - will have to try the homemade version - thank you for the recipe.

gonna try cous cous too - with a nice sauce like the plummy chicken - again, thanks for the link to this one.

have been meaning to try making pizza/ calzones but a bit time consuming, which is something I don't have too much of - Tilly really clingy with teething and won't leave me a lone - screams when I put her down in the kitchen so have to make something pretty darn fast!!
