Default chewing

i know this might sound strange put how can i get my lo to chew she has just turned 1 and is just getting two front teeth but she wont chew food. if i give her anything that has lumps or whole pasta shapes she just tries to swallow them whole and when she cant she just spits them out and refuses to eat anymore. i give her loads of finger food and she just seems to suck them as oppposed to biting and chewing. any ideas to get her chewing?!

Hi there, try imitating it to her when she has it in her mouth. My LO has 2 teeth and is having bits of finger foods so I'm trying to teach her to chew a bit too. They do watch and copy you. hope it helps. xx

Yes try imitating her, i know exactly the problem you face though as thomas only started chewing a few months ago, up until then he tried to swallow whatever it was the used to gag then everything came back all over him! Just keep persevering eventually she'll get it, keep giving finger foods and eventually one day it will just happen!
hugs
xx

hello

just bumping this up.. not sure if its relevant anymore but..

chewing/choking was my biggest fear.. more because how am i meant to keep an eye on all three when they're experimenting with new hard foods. Anyway i made sure i had people with me in these first chewing weeks. We all sat there doing huge chewing faces saying chew chew chew.

Anyway they all copied us - got what chew meant and that seemed to do the trick. Then came the song chew don't choke.... anyway it worked

ps they're 18 months now and still only got five teeth... and only had two at the front when the chewing begun

hope its going well for you now!
