I have to agree. She has made her name telling people that cooking from scratch doesnt have to be difficult and its better for you - dont resort to ready meals/jars then lo and behold she has her own range of ready meals....

Exactly!!!She was all about not using jars to wean but ready meals are the equivalent of jars but for older kids, no??

Very hypocrytical on AK's part IMO.

This is quite ueful but still only general advice:

Food Standards Agency - Eat well, be well - Your toddler

Says not to give wholemeal pasta to toddlers (which I take to mean up to age five). Flo does have this, not all the time, but occasionally. I think variety can be the only way forward to hedge your bets!

The programme itself didn't say anything I didn't already know. Posed loads of obvious questions and didn't really give any answers! Bit crap really.

AK must have known what she was in for when she went on it. Perhaps the best move is to cut out added salt and sugar from all recipes because there didn't seem to be any other criticisms made of it!?

Hi, I saw some of the programme, & you think. god what next. what are they going to be saying nexy month ?
My hubby is always complaining about our lo at nursery, she is 2.5yr old, has sandwiches every night. not the best meal & kids/toddlers are not even that fussed about sandwiches, most kids i know eat/prefer beans on toast or scambled egg on toast or poached on toast. we pay a fortune for our lo to go to nursery and they get a sandwich !!!

I logged in to say how disingenuous Annabel Karmel is in her reply on this thread.

I say to you Ms. Karmel;

You set these meals up - you must know what was in them.

You must know how sensitive babies and young children are to salt, so to sell high sugar and salt products in the expectation that busy parents will minutely examine the label when they trust you is just pathetic and is just an attempt to wiggle out of taking any responsibility for your branded products.

I think you are playing a bit fast and loose with childrens' health to make a fast buck, but that's no surprise since the supermarkets who peddle your nosh do so relentlessly as well.

This is a real shame as we love your recipes - I'll keep the book I bought but not a single penny of ours will go on any of your products in any way shape or form ever again.

You are obviously upset that someone blew the whistle.

You can close my account as I won't post again.

I try avoid in most cases to give my daughter anything processed, as I do myself. I find I can't always do this with my partner, as it has been what he is used to eating his whole life.
I don't see the point of adding salt to my daughters and mine food, as she was fine eating the recipes with no salt before she was 12 months, so why add salt to her meals now. When I follow AK's recipes aimed at toddlers i miss the salt out.
I believe it is rubbish that they have to put in those levels of salt in the AK ready meals, as children would not eat them otherwise, as I believe this is only the case when people are only used to eating food that is full of salt, say in my partners case.
My daughter ( luckily for me) is the most unfussy eater ever, and eats everything I offer her, although sometimes it takes her a couple of tries. I saw the AK ready meals in tesco's and thought i would try them, on hand for when we are in a rush or have nothing in. My daughter turned her nose up to both of the ones i bought, she has never done that with any food before. I would not have bought them if I had understood the nutritional values and realised the amount of salt/sugar in them, I just went by AK's reputation.

I was really offended by her 'any educated Mother would know that' comment as well, she come across so snobby, and I found her very patronising.

But just goes to show, they are all in it for the money!
