Default Chocolate Fountain

Hi

We have acquired a chocolate fountain through Freecycle and it looks like there is a knack to getting it right.

You have to add vegetable oil to regular chocolate if you go for that, but not which oil?!!? Am thinking olive won't be a good idea....

It looks like you can also buy fondue chocolate on line but not sure whether to go for this or not.....it appeals to me slightly more than eating chocolate with extra oil!!!

It looks quite an expensive thing to bodge up so if anyone has any tips I'd be most grateful.

Thanks in advance. xxx

oooh chocolate fountains are fab!

i just use normal shop brand vegetable oil. It just helps thins the chocolate out so it pours better.

Aslo, make sure the fountain is perfectly level when you set it up or it wont cascade evenly down the levels.

Can recommend fruit, marshmallows, jelly babies, shortbread and if your brave chillis!

very jealous.

Many thanks for your tips! I think I'll just go for regular choc then and vege oil.

I think I am going to go for fruit mainly to make it more virtuous (I have already got images of my LO needing a jet wash after it for a start) but do you mean raw chillies?!?!?! As in crunchy chillies?!?!?!? I might have to go for that. Could be very funny. Am going to try it out for a family bbq and can see the chilli thing becoming a bit competitive amongst the alphamalewannabies! Do you cut them up or just leave as is?

I read on line about crisps with it which sounded interesting.

Big thanks. x

Hi all,
I have just been given a choc fountain. My friend has never used it, but it doesn't have the instructions or box.

So i don't have a clue how to use it?

I have read about using normal choc + oil?

How much oil to choc do you use please?

Or where could i buy choc fountain chocolate?

How much choc do i need for a small fountain please?

thanks

As I recall, ours had a table with different types of choc and the amount of oil you'd need (vege oil). You might be able to find similar on line.

Heat it in the microwave gradually. If it overcooks it goes lumpy.

I seem to think we used about 300 to 400g but that is just going from memory.

Sorry I haven't got time to dig out the instructions to ours, supposed to be doing something else as it is!

Best for large parties.

Yuk I don't like the sound of adding vegetable oil to the chocolate I know this is already in chocolate but to knowingly add it.

A few years ago we were at a party for one of hubby's clients and there was a huge chocolate fountain and this man put his strawberry too close to the middle and got covered in chocolate it just splatted everywhere - he had to leave as he looked a mess!!!!

Hope it turns out good! x
